Sajid Nadiadwala expands his film genres

Sajid Nadiadwala, the owner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment Pvt Ltd, is known to be associated with movies that are labeled in Bollywood as ‘masala entertainers’. This is because his banner has produced blockbusters like Housefull, Housefull 2, Kambakkth Ishq, Heyy Baby, Judwa, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and many more. But 2014 is going to change that for this ace producer as he is going to be a part of two of the most talked about films of the year. Both these movies are non-commercial. The first is Imtiaz Ali’s Highway, which is being presented worldwide by Sajid. And the second is Kabir Khan’s Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Phantom. Phantom is based on the 26/11 terror attacks and both the lead actors play counter terrorists in the film. This film is produced by the Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment Pvt Ltd banner.

Sajid Nadiadwala, who has launched directors like Sajid Khan and Shirish Kunder, said "Highway is a beautiful story so I jumped into the project. I feel proud to be associated with Imtiaz Ali and Kabir Khan. It is not intentional. It is not that just because I was making only entertainers I want to work with them. I would like to be associated with those whose cinema I like and feel comfortable working with. It is not a conscious decision." He further adds, "I have grown up watching cinema of directors like JP Dutta. Now I am reinventing myself. Even sitting with Imtiaz and Kabir refreshes me. It is like taking coaching classes and such heavy duty coaching classes coming free is not bad. It is a great experience to see how they visualize and conceptualize their films."

Sajid Nadiadwala has a number of films lined up for release this year. This list includes the Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor starrer 2 States, which is a love story and is a screen adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s book with the same name. He is also producing Heropanti, which marks the debut of Jackie Shroff’s son Tiger Shroff in Bollywood. Kick, Sajid’s directorial debut, is all set to release on the 25^th of July 2014.

Sajid Nadiadwala shares a long lasting relationship with Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar

Sajid Nadiadwala, who owns the banner Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment Pvt Ltd, is one of the top producers in Bollywood. He has worked with many male and female actors from the industry but Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar are two actors who are seen very frequently in his films. Akshay has worked with Sajid in movies like Housefull, Housefull 2, Hey Baby, Kambakkt Ishq and a few more. Sajid’s movies Judwa and Jeet had Salman Khan in the lead. The two have in fact even worked together in Sajid Nadiadwala movies like Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and Jaanemann. Salman will also be seen in Sajid’s next release Kick, which is his first movie as a director.  

When he was asked why he hasn’t worked with other superstars like Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, Sajid Nadiadwala said, "With Aamir it has never happened and there is no reason for it. And as far as Shah Rukh is concerned, it is only for me that he has done cameos in two films (Hey Baby and Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega). This year when I decided to make five films in a year, there was an opportunity to work with him for 2 States, which is co-produced by Karan Johar and me. Shah Rukh was signed for it but then it fizzled out and did not materialize. And since I make one film in a year, so far I was happy working with Salman and Akshay. It is just that I have not worked with one or two stars, with the rest I have worked." 

Sajid further spoke about his relationship with his two long lasting actors, Akshay and Salman. He says that it has worked well whenever he has made films (individually) with these two stars and together, they have a 95% success rate. In the last 10 years, only once when Sajid worked with them, in Janemann, they could not deliver a hit. Sajid Nadiadwala believes that these figures are a major reason why he prefers working with these two. The other reason for this liaison is that he is absolutely comfortable working with Akshay and Salman and has a lot of faith in both the actors, which he believes is an absolute necessity for making a good film.

Akshay Kumar might soon be seen once again in a Sajid Nadiadwala production!

Talking about friends and foes in the film industry, one name that comes to the mind is of the famous Indian film producer Sajid Nadiadwala. The man has many friends in Bollywood, who have stayed by his side since a long time now. One of his closest buddies, who is also currently doing a film with the producer is Salman Khan. They are together coming up with Sajid’s directorial debut Kick. His other friends include Sajid Khan, Farah Khan, Sabbir Khan, Imtiaz Ali, and many more. Last, but not the least is his old friend Akshay Kumar, who has done several movies with the film maker. Akshay along with Sajid has given hits like Heyy Babyy, Houseful, and Housefull 2. With Housefull 2 earning a whooping amount, stronger became the bond between the actor and producer.

Continuing to grow this bond even stronger, Akshay Kumar might soon be seen once again in a Sajid Nadiadwala production. The time or date is not yet confirmed as Sajid is already busy with multiple projects this as well as the next year. His 2014 and 2015 releases include the films Highway, Heropanti, 2 States, Kick, Phantom, and the tentatively named Window Seat. So, the two can come together in a film anytime later, when all these six ventures have been wrapped up. Confirming the news Sajid said, “Yes Akshay and I team up again for my next venture. We have a strong personal equation. The film falls in the romantic-action genre. It will be interesting to see Akki in that space. He has always trusted my instincts as far as stories are concerned.” As per the producer, the movie might be of the action-romance genre.

Adding to the conversation, Sajid Nadiadwala said, “Once I am through with the basic storyline, my team will start work on the screenplay. Nothing else, including female lead, or other crewmembers are finalized yet!”

The reason Sajid Nadiadwala named his banner ‘Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment Pvt Ltd’!

Starting up your own business, though you have had a family background really strong is a difficult task. But then, there are some people, who like to take up such tough challenges and prove themselves somewhere down the lane. Similarly, we have the famous Indian film producer Sajid Nadiadwala, who has been an idol for many. Being a lawyer by qualification, he took up film making as a career. Born in a family with a strong film background, Sajid actually was never dependent on them to come up in this particular field. Whatever he has achieved so far, is all by himself. After completing his studies, he entered the industry as an assistant director to JP Dutta for Ghulami. Later, he went ahead with launching his own banner and named his production house as Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment Pvt Ltd. It was his sole effort and he asked for help neither from his grandfather, nor father.

Ask Sajid Nadiadwala the reason behind naming his banner as Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment Pvt Ltd and he replies, “My uncle's banner was Nadiadwala Sons. Most companies were named 'so and so sons' so I registered 'Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment Pvt Ltd' as my grandfather was the reason we were in this line. The logo had the letters N and G and in between, it had a grandfather holding a grandchild's hand that was meant to be me. Coincidentally, my son today feels that the little child holding the hand is him with his grandfather. I saw success as a producer for the first time in 1995 with back-to-back hits, 'Jeet' and 'Judwaa', and since then 90% of my films have been hits.” So, this is the reason for the film maker to name his production house as NGE Pvt. Ltd.

Since then, Sajid Nadiadwala has been producing multiple films under this banner and has also given several hits!
