Screen adaptations are
a new trend these days. Many film makers have been showing interest in working
on turning the stories of famous books into films. Amongst all of them, one is
ace producer of Bollywood Sajid
Nadiadwala. He read author Chetan Bhagat’s book 2 States and fell in love
with the real life love story of the writer. He liked it so much that he
immediately bought the rights for the story and decided to make it into a
movie. However, Sajid is not doing it alone; he is co-producing the film along
with film maker and friend Karan Johar. They have roped in debutant Abhishek
Varman to direct 2 States (the name remains the same), who had no plans to
tamper the original story of the book. Sajid, Karan, as well as Chetan are very
happy with this. Newcomers Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor have been signed to play
the lead pair.
Romantic by genre, 2
States is a screen adaptation of the book written by Chetan Bhagat with the same
name. With this, Sajid Nadiadwala is
stepping into the world of screen adaptations this year for the first time.
Chetan has written six books so far, out of which three have been converted
into films. 2 States is the fourth book that has been adapted on the screen and
is about two people from different castes, who fall in love and do everything
to convince their parents for their marriage. Rightly put by a source, he said,
“The romantic plot is expected to revolve around
a couple’s lingual and cultural distinctions in spite of belonging to one
nation.” In this movie, Arjun plays the role of Krishh Malhotra, a north Indian
boy, who falls in love with Alia playing Ananya Swaminathan, a south Indian
girl. The two meet at IIM, where they study together and fall in love with each
other.
